"Australians See Smiley Face in Night Sky"

"Australians are getting a big hello from the heavens as Venus, Jupiter and a waxing crescent moon combine to create a celestial smiley face... In the United States, the effect will be inverted and will appear as a frown."

Remember the smiley face sun painted in the sky on the "painting" done by dancers and strung up at the opening ceremony of the Olympics? (http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/olympics-come-to-life-as-a-painting-by-beijing-and-athletes/2008/08/10/1218306657444.html?page=2) And the "Smiley Face" fireworks in the sky? (http://www.thebeijinger.com/blog/2008/07/24/Opening-Ceremony-Fireworks-Smiley-faces-in-the-sky) Kind of strikes me as ominous that all those otherwise intimidating Chinese drummers were flashing smiling faces at the rest of the world - coached to look friendly.

There also was the "Happy Face Killer" (Keith Hunter Jesperson of Portland, OR, who killed 8 people) and then last year a string of 40 or so drownings of healthy young men marked by smiley faces painted nearby and thought to be done by the "Smiley Face Gang."

With Mars being the god of war, I don't take that as a good sign.

Especially combined with the comic book series "Watchmen" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen).

It was November 16, 1988 that Benazir Bhutto was elected (she was assasinated 2 days after Christmas last year).

There's a character named Jim Smiley who is a gambler in the Mark Twain story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" - and on May 16, the Yo-Yo ride collapsed at the Calaveras County fair in Angels Camp in the Sierra Nevada foothills (the fair is a celebration of the jumping frog contest), the day before Ted Kennedy went to the hospital, eventually learning he had a brain tumor. It is interesting that Yo Yo Ma has appeared on the West Wing in the episode entitled "Noel" and here we are on the verge of Christmas. I mention the Sierra Nevada thing because it was the Sierra Nevadas where Steve Fossett's remains were found) .
