At 11:10 p.m., a cascade of horrific problems began.

Automatic messages relayed by the jetliner indicate the autopilot had disengaged, suggesting Dubois and his two co-pilots were trying to thread their way through the dangerous clouds manually.

A key computer system had switched to alternative power and controls needed to keep the plane stable had been damaged.

An alarm sounded, indicating the deterioration of flight systems.

At 11:13 p.m., more automatic messages reported the failure of systems to monitor air speed, altitude and direction. Control of the main flight computer and wing spoilers also failed.

The last automatic message, at 11:14 p.m., indicated complete electrical failure and a massive loss of cabin pressure -- catastrophic events, indicating that the plane was breaking apart and plunging toward the ocean.

Woman who missed Flight 447 is killed in car crash

An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week has been killed in a car accident.

Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from Bolzano-Bozen province, had been on holiday in Brazil with her husband Kurt and missed Air France Flight 447 after turning up late at Rio de Janeiro airport on May 31.

All 228 people aboard lost their lives after the plane crashed into the Atlantic four hours into its flight to Paris.

The ANSA news agency reported that the couple had managed to pick up a flight from Rio the following day. It said that Ms Ganthaler died when their car veered across a road in Kufstein, Austria, and swerved into an oncoming truck. Her husband was seriously injured.

Alex Browning (portrayed by Devon Sawa) is going on a school-run trip to Paris with his fellow peers. Before take-off, Alex has a premonition that his flight explodes in mid-air, killing everybody. Alex then wakes up, assuming the events to be just a dream. However, as events from his vision begin to repeat themselves in reality, Alex panics and attempts to stop the flight. The resulting commotion leads to a handful of passengers being left behind. As they witness the explosion from the terminal, they realize that what Alex witnessed wasn’t just a dream. Soon after, the survivors of the flight begin dying in a chain of bizarre accidents, in the same order they would have died on the plane.

While in a hospital, recuperating from stress, Liz Powell, whom her agent, Barney, describes as "the best little stripper-dancer that ever came down the pike", has a strange nightmare. Every night, she awakens at midnight. She turns and breaks a drinking glass full of water, and then hears strange footsteps outside her door. It is always the same person: a nurse who beckons Liz to follow her. When Liz does, she goes down into an elevator and nervously approaches room 22.

The strange nurse then emerges from the dark shadows of the room and, smiling wickedly, gives a message: "Room for one more, honey." Liz screams and runs back to her room, where she falls back to sleep. Her doctor claims that the dream is impossible, as there is no nurse who resembles the woman in the dream working in the hospital. The doctor then suggests that Liz change her actions in the dream, such as not to reach for the glass of water. Liz does this that night, and is happy to hear no footsteps, but when she turns to sleep, her blanket shatters the glass. The dream goes on in the same way, but this time Liz realizes that the room is a morgue.

The next morning, the doctor is shocked: Liz has never been downstairs to the morgue, and yet she described it with remarkable accuracy. Discharged from the hospital, Liz is at the airport, preparing to go home. She begins fearing the worst after hearing her flight announced as "Flight 22", leaving immediately. While nervously twitching in the terminal, she bumps into a woman carrying a vase. It falls, making the same noise as the drinking glass in the dream. In a long, slow shot, Liz walks up the runway, climbs the stairs, and approaches the plane.... and a stewardess who looks just like the dream-nurse appears, intoning her same terrifying message: "Room for one more, honey".

Screaming, Liz runs back down the stairs and into the airport, falling to the ground. A moment later, as the concerned airport staff rush towards the hysterical Liz, the plane explodes immediately after takeoff, killing everyone aboard. Liz's dream has warned her of her impending death, thus saving her life.

For the first time, scientists have matched a meteorite found on Earth with a specific asteroid that became a fireball plunging through the sky.

It gives them a glimpse into the past when planets formed and an idea about how to avoid a future asteroid Armageddon.

Last October, astronomers tracked a small non-threatening asteroid heading toward Earth before it became a "shooting star" - something they had not done before.

It blew up in the sky and scientists thought there would be no space rocks left to examine.

But a painstaking search by dozens of students through the remote Sudan desert came up with four kilograms of black jagged rocks - leftovers from the asteroid 2008 TC3.

The study is being published Thursday in the journal Nature.

It says the dark rocks found in the desert were full of surprises, including minuscule diamonds.

"This was a meteorite that was not in our collection, a completely new material," said study lead author Peter Jenniskens of NASA's Ames Research Center in California.
